We share the ranch with a variety of other residents. Some are obvious, like the birds who have been nesting in every available spot for some weeks now. Others are more elusive, keeping more to themselves.
We have seen five species of snakes here at the ranch, all beneficial and most quite harmless. The Western Rattlesnake is the one exception. This specimen showed up on the back porch one evening late in May. Despite the threatening attitude, our rattlesnakes are quite mild-mannered, and want nothing so much as to be left alone.
