
The land in the river bottom is rich and fruitful. Different varieties of lettuce show as colorful stripes in the fields.
Lettuces, broccoli, asparagus, peppers, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and a wealth of other vegetables are grown here, supplying the whole country. I know. When I lived back in Virginia, it looked like the lettuce had walked all the way from the Salinas Valley.
Living this close to the source, we get used to really first-rate produce. We rarely buy from the supermarket what we can find cheaper and fresher at the local farmers markets. Yes, we're spoiled.
