Wildflowers IV - Lupine

Bush Lupine in Lowes Canyon

Late April in a year when the weather was just right to bring out all the best in wildflowers. A favorite California flower is the purple lupine, a member of the same family as the Texas Bluebonnet (which is really not even native to Texas). This family thrives in most of California's microclimates, from the damp coastal dunes around Monterey Bay to the high sierra. While usually purple, like these, lupines also come in white, pink, and even yellow.
