The Salinas Valley - II

The Salinas Valley - II

Lettuce Fields outside Greenfield

The land in the river bottom is rich and fruitful. Different varieties of lettuce show as colorful stripes in the fields.

Lettuces, broccoli, asparagus, peppers, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and a wealth of other vegetables are grown here, supplying the whole country. I know. When I lived back in Virginia, it looked like the lettuce had walked all the way from the Salinas Valley.

Living this close to the source, we get used to really first-rate produce. We rarely buy from the supermarket what we can find cheaper and fresher at the local farmers markets. Yes, we're spoiled.
